News from the District
At our recent AGM, following the changes to our Constitution, our two Counsellors have now become Life Members of CCWGA, joining Joan O’Connell, Judy Swanson and Ellen Rae.
Congratulations
to Mollie Chapman and Di Thomlinson. We thank you both so much for your participation and enthusiasm for golf on the Central Coast over many years. Pamela Johnston
President CCWGA
MOLLIE CHAPMAN
Mollie has been playing golf on the Central Coast since 1967, when she joined Tuggerah Lakes (now Shelly Beach) after moving from North Ryde. She was on a single figure handicap for many years and often held the role of the Captain of the Tuggerah Div 1 Pennant team. She is now a Platinum Life Member at Shelly Beach.
Her expertise and knowledge were invaluable in the early 1970s when she joined Terrigal, (now Breakers) as one of the first lady members. She was handicapper, captain or secretary there for many years, winning multiple club championships, ladies Foursomes championships and mixed Foursomes championships during the 70s, 80s and 90s. She has also been a Life Member at Terrigal for many years as a recognition of her contribution to the early days of the course.
At a District level, Mollie was heavily involved in the initial setting up of the Brisbane Water District in 1981 and was elected as the first Handicapper. Unfortunately, a few weeks later the family had to leave the Central Coast when her husband was transferred to Cobar. However, on their return in 1989 Mollie was again elected as handicapper, a position she subsequently held almost every year until her retirement in 2008. This was at a time prior to Golflink, when all club handicappers were required to keep pen and paper records of all players. The district handicapper’s job involved checking all their figures to ensure the handicaps were accurate. Throughout her time on the committee, Mollie was the go-to person for any question about handicapping or golf rules.
For many years, she alone ran the two-day event for 36 markers at the Annual Tournament at Terrigal. Many of our district golfers have fond memories of her from these days.
She has been a District Counsellor for the last 5 years and has enjoyed this role and the opportunity to continue to assist. At the recent district AGM, the role of District Counsellor has been removed from the constitution and Mollie has been given the title of Life Member, which is much deserved and much appreciated.

Di Thomlinson
The CCWGA AGM was held on Monday and
Congratulations
go to one of our Magenta members Di Thomlinson who was awarded Life Membership for her services to our District. Di is very modest, but it would be remiss not to list some of her many golfing achievements as well as services to the game we all love.
Di has had an extensive golfing career both as a top player and an administrator. She has had over 25 years of service on both Gosford Ladies and District committees where she has held the positions of Secretary, Vice Captain, Captain and President. She has been playing pennants for Gosford since the early 1970’s and probably holds the record for most Championship wins at Gosford with 64 combined Club Champion, Foursomes and Mixed Foursomes titles.
At District level she has won Champion of Champions and Foursomes titles and has 7 NSW Country Foursomes titles to her name. Di has been a member of Magenta for 12 years and has served on our Match Committee as well as winning a Club Championship and Foursomes Championship. Di has also been names in the CCWGA District team to play Newcastle District.
Di is clearly a Champion golfer with a wealth of golfing knowledge and her service to our District is truly admirable.
Congratulations
again Di on such a lovely honour. Kim Burke
