Everglades Open Charity Day Death by Chocolate Draw Monday 11th April

UPDATE: COURSE CLOSED THURSDAY

Well, considering the amount of rain we've already had today, its no surprise that it has already been decided to close the course tomorrow.  So, see you in the club for coffee/lunch. Looking at the forecast for the next week, it doesn't look promising for the Debbie Gaunt qualifying next Thursday, 7th April, but let's be positive. If you want to play and haven't arranged things with Gill, please get in touch with her asap, as we will be doing the draw tomorrow. Fingers crossed for our pennant players who are at Magenta on Monday. With the sand based course, it will probably be on, whatever the weather so let's hope it's not raining.

INFO RE: TOMORROW

Hi Ladies, Please be aware that the course is currently closed. A decision as to whether it remains closed tomorrow will be made either late this afternoon or very early in the morning. We will let you know, either way, as soon as possible. Given the current conditions, we have decided to change tomorrow's event to a Stableford, in one division only. If there is anyone who hasn't entered for the Debbie Gaunt qualifying day next Thursday and would like to do so, please get in touch with Gill Wilson. We do have a reserve list on the go if anyone doesn't have a partner. Gill will also be in touch with pennant ladies regarding next Monday. Cheers, Jenny (for Match Committee)

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK...Should I hit out of the penalty area or take a drop?

Hi Ladies, Who knows whether we'll be choosing to play this Thursday.  If we can't play, at least we can think about playing.  Imagine this scenario, not unfamiliar! You are playing our 9th hole and your second shot goes into the penalty area on the right hand side of the fairway. When you find your ball it is playable but the only clear way out is to hit it sideways or backwards to hopefully get it back onto the fairway. Is this your best option? Well, consider this. If you choose to do so, you have to hope you manage to hit it ok and you also have to hit it in the right direction so you miss any tree or bush in the way, and you have to hit it the right strength so that it gets out onto the fairway and not too far so it doesn't go right across the fairway into the water on the other side.  Let's say you do hit it successfully. Then you are back on the fairway for 3, about to hit your 4th shot, this time towards the green. BUT, another option is to decide to pick

Mixed Foursomes POSTPONED

Due to the inclement weather conditions it has been decided to postpone this event  until SATURDAY14th MAY There will be a presentation after this event - in conjunction with the  MEGA GOLF MEMBER GIVEAWAY and social evening for both men and women golfers and their partners (live music and many golf related prizes). Each golf member will be awarded one guaranteed  entry into the draw and can receive additional entries for every competition game played leading up to the draw from April 2nd.   (No action is required by the golf member as the men's golf committee will arrange the entries into the draw) Come along and enjoy a much needed, post Covid, long awaited, fun social evening.

RAIN!

Look out the window as this is written, and there is no surprise that all early starters have cancelled. However, the course is open, and if you are desperate for a game, there is still a comp on, IF a total of 8 ladies decide to play. As mentioned previously, we hope to see you all in the club today for coffee etc. from about 10.30am. There are new membership cards to organise and possibly pennant shirts to collect. Gill will be there to collect those pairs entries (and $5 entry fees) for the Debbie Gaunt day on 7th April. I believe there are also new shirts in the pro shop you might like to check out. So, see you later!

INFO FOR TOMORROW + WILL YOU NEED THIS RULE? BALL LOST but is it in temporary water?

Hi again, Fingers crossed that the weather will be okay tomorrow. If it's iffy in the morning, look for a message on the blog/FB. Also, don't forget that we are taking names and money for pairs to play in the Debbie Gaunt qualifying day on 7th April. Please make sure you and your partner see Gill Wilson to enter for this, if you haven't already done so. Given the condition of the course in recent times, I have been asked about, and observed for myself, what happens if you lose a ball in the general area, which might be just long grass, a bit muddy or temporary water. It is tricky because the rule about a ball lost in temporary water is different to that if it is lost but not in temporary water. As an example, if you hit your ball left off the third tee and it goes into the area not far from the fence on the second tee, it is often difficult to find. If there is no water there, then you need to use the stroke and distance rule for a lost ball, meaning you have to hit anothe

PORTAL LOGIN LINK

Hi Ladies, As you will be aware, the Mounties changeover is happening at the moment and the Breakers app is no longer working. Having been in the pro shop all morning, I am totally aware that some people are having trouble accessing the members portal in order to see, enter or delete tee bookings. I hope the link below will help anyone who hasn't been able to do so yet. https://id.micropower.com.au/breakerscc/?returnUrl=/breakerscc This should get you to the portal log in screen, then just enter your member number and password and you should be in. If possible, save it to your home screen and you can simply click on that icon next time. The weather doesn't look great for the next few days so we will wait and see if golf is on Thursday. If it isn't, it would be great if most of you could come to the club for coffee or lunch to see the changes Mounties have set up, get your new members card, and sort out the above portal access if you haven't been able to do so. Kooindah Open Day

Image
A lovely day of golf at Kooindah Waters today for their charity day. 93 ladies from across the Coast and further afield ventured out in the almost pre-dawn light to put their golfing skills to the test.  Breakers was represented by two groups. The star of the day was Gill Wilson winning the longest drive on the 10th for Division 2. A star of a different kind was Trace O'Meara who took out the prize for losing the most balls on the day. We lost count after 9....... Now you can see Trace's ball Now you can't..... In 23rd place was Sherryn Fuller's group winning the encouragement award with 61 points and in 14th place was Gill Wilson's group with 72 points. The overall winners had 86 points, so we were close! We didn't win the raffles or the 100 club, but we did have fun!!

RULE OF THE DAY -- MISSING CLUB - WHAT TO DO

As mentioned yesterday, an interesting scenario came up a few weeks ago.  Imagine you accidentally left your putter in the car and didn't realise until you went to putt on the 1st green. What can you do???  1. Firstly, no, you can't go back to the car to get it at this point as this is considered an unreasonable delay in play and you would be penalised. 2. Secondly, no, you can't borrow a putter from another player. This would also be a penalty. The explanation of this rule is only in the full rule book as follows... NO SHARING OF CLUBS.  A player must not make a stroke with a club being used by anyone else who is playing on the course (even if the other player is playing in a different group or competition) 3. The only option here would be to use a different club to putt with, eg hybrid or 3 wood, until you finished the first nine, when you could quickly go to the car to pick it up. 4. This issue did bring up the thought that what if you discovered you were missing a club

Par 17th March

Well there are plenty of negative things happening in the world at the moment so let's look at the positives from today. 1. We got out of the house for a change 2. It was sunny. 3. It was lovely to catch up with friends. 4. We got plenty of exercise. 5. We didn't get wet from the sky. 6. We put some rules into practice. 7.The pro shop made some money. 8. Some people won a raffle prize. 9. Some people played really well and here is the prize report . https://golf.micropower.com.au/breakerscc/competition/prizes?CompetitionId=244187  No need to discuss the condition of the course but on that topic... here's a puzzle for you... Can you find the 3 balls in this photo, taken from our tee shots on the 7th hole? Good luck with that. We had trouble and we were right there.

RULE OF THE WEEK...PREFERRED LIES

PREFERRED LIES The rule relating to preferred lies is a local rule and, as such, is not in the small rule book that everyone should have a copy of. So, this is a summary of the rule in the full rule book. When taking a preferred lie, the player may take relief once by placing the original ball within the appropriate distance of the original spot. Several things are important to note here. Firstly, it is vital to choose a good place to move your ball to, because if you decide you don’t like it, too late, you can only move it once under this rule. Secondly, what happens if you place your ball and it subsequently moves off that spot? In the past, as many of you would remember, you had to play the ball from where it rolled to. BUT, this rule changed in 2019 and, now, you must replace the ball on the spot you first moved it to. If for some reason, it won’t stay there, you need to place it as near as possible, no nearer the hole, so that it will stay in place. Thirdly, do yo

ENTERING CARDS & UPCOMING EVENTS

Hi Ladies, Your committee has had a meeting today and would like to fill you in on a few decisions we have made. ENTERING CARDS From this week, we are going to  trial a new system for checking cards. When you finish your game, please continue to read out all your scores to check that your marker agrees with your score and also check that the crosses are in the correct place. Then, when you go into the pro shop to  scan your card, there will be a committee person to check with you that the score on your card is the same as the one you have entered into the computer.  If you have any question about a rule, you can ask the committee person at this point, get a ruling, and then hand your card to them in the pro shop.  QUALIFYING FOR DEBBIE GAUNT "CELEBRATION OF GOLF" DAY  You can see in our Fixture Book  that Thursday 7th April is set down as the Qualifying Day for the Debbie Gaunt Celebration of Golf day, to be held at Breakers on 23rd September.  This is a new event for our di

WYONG CLASSIC and SHIELD POSTPONED

Hi Ladies.  Unfortunately the Wyong Classic, which was scheduled for Friday 25th March, has been postponed due to the weather.  Please note important information in the following letter from the Ladies captain, Shona Mitchell. Dear All, Following discussions today with Wyong Management, our Head Greenkeeper Kent and the Match Committee, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our premier event the Wyong Ladies Classic and Shield which is due to be played on Friday 25th March 2022. Our course remains closed at this time with greens, tees and fairways impacted from the recent heavy rains which will result in a long recovery process to bring the course back to its very best. I will advise you of a new date as soon as possible and look forward to welcoming you back to Wyong for this event. If you could forward this information on to others it would be most appreciated.  If you are unable to play on the new date you will be fully refunded, or if you require a refund now please emai

Thursday Pennants Catch up/ Committee meeting

Hi ladies, could we ask any ladies playing Pennants this year to attend the club for a briefing and info handout this Thursday at 11am. I was sent an update from the district today and at this stage we will be playing on Monday. Toukley is closed till Saturday however final decisions will be made on the weekend. Also Colleen has called a lunch/committee meeting from 12pm could all committee members please advise Colleen if you are unable to attend.

Thursday 10th March

Ladies we have made the decision to not run a comp/fun day next week. We have been offered time slots from 8:30am till 10:30am however this would mean we would be following the coring machinery on certain holes and be held up at different times waiting for greens to be free. We also took into consideration the amount of rain we have had and still forecasting more to come. Safety was our biggest consideration and feel the course would not be a safe place for our members to be. Your committee always has all ladies in mind when making these decisions and appreciate your support. We will keep you updated with anything arising that affects your golf. Stay safe and I look forward to playing golf with you in better conditions. Regards Michelle

Course Closed Thursday 3rd March

Toukley Classic Deferred (from CCWGA Facebook page)

Good morning everyone Discussions have been held with our Head Greenkeeper and Toukley Management and we have had to make the unfortunate decision to postpone next week's Toukley Ladies Classic. The heavy rainfall we have received and with the further forecasted weather over the coming days, the course would not be in any condition to be played on, or presented in the way that Toukley pride themselves for. I will advise you of the new date as soon as I can. As you can appreciate, it is very hard to fit a 2 day event into our already busy golfing calendar. If you are unable to play on the new date, you will of course be entitled to a full refund. Or if you would like a refund now, please email me your bank details and I will arrange for you. I'd appreciate it if you could please forward this information onto your playing partners and we hope to see you all later in the year. Stay safe and dry. Dianne George Toukley Lady Captain

Wet Weather info and more!

Image
Afternoon ladies our match committee has just finished discussing a few things including tomorrows comp. We have made the decision to cancel tomorrows comp due to the weather ☔🌧. I have been to the course today to assess the conditions and you guessed it........ its WET! The course is closed today and another decision will be made in the morning as to wether its playable or not. Nicky is happy to run a ball comp for any of the die hard, wet weather, mud wrangling ladies out there. I will post in the morning if the course is open.  Pennants practice on Friday is also cancelled.  There will be no tee bookings available tomorrow at 3pm for next Thursday, due to Monday's course renovations being cancelled and rescheduled for Thursday we are waiting to hear how and if we can run a comp that day. Please understand we bring in an outside company to do our coring and have to work with what availability they have.  Can you change in your calendars the Monthly medal on the 17th March will

TRANSFERRING YOUR BREAKERS MEMBERSHIP TO MOUNTIES

Hi everyone, Most of you will have received a text with information on how to transfer your membership to Mounties.  The easiest way to do it is to click on the link in the text. Just make sure you enter your name exactly as it is on your Breakers membership card. For example, mine didn't work as Jenny or Jennifer. I had to put Jennifer Ruth as  I am on my current card, and then it worked perfectly. Good luck! Jenny
